The Fin
Tappy Yoshikawa's quad — an odd-looking template that rides predictably, with angles drawn to make speed and to let go cleanly.
Four fins in solid fiberglass, Futures compatible, in smoke, red or kelp. The fronts are 4.78" deep on a 4.62" base; the rears 3.72" on a 3.77" base — a large front pair for a quad with the rears kept small. Yoshikawa is a Japanese shaper who spent time watching Skip Frye work in San Diego, and the fin has the Frye habit of getting its results from angles rather than from area.
How that reads
The angles in the template are what generate the speed and drive; keeping the rear pair small is what lets the tail release when you ask rather than holding on all the way through the turn. Nothing about it is on a knife edge — True Ames describe the look as avant garde and the performance as predictable and solid, which is unusual for an outline this unconventional.
Who it suits
Performance shortboards, mid-lengths and long fish alike — it is rated for most conditions rather than for a narrow window. A good set for a board you ride across a wide range of surf.

The Tappy Quad is a four-fin set designed by Japanese shaper Takuya "Tappy" Yoshikawa and made by True Ames in solid fiberglass with Futures bases, sold as a set of four. The template carries a good amount of rake and is intended for quad fish and modern quad surfboards.
