Flip this one over and it's an advertisement. The back print celebrates the 10th anniversary of The Shining β "available now on VHS and LaserDisc," Warner Home Video logo, and the name of an actual rental shop, California Video Center β which pins the design to the film's 1990 home-video reissue β a video-store promo tee. The quote above it, "The tide of terror that swept America is back!", reworks the tagline off the film's 1980 release poster. The front carries the scene the reissue sold itself on, in full color: Nicholson's face through the axe-split door, red panels either side. The scene cost more than it looks β the props department built a breakaway door, but Nicholson had trained as a volunteer fire marshal and shredded it too fast, so Kubrick made him chop through real ones; Shelley Duvall put it at three days and sixty doors. Early-90s movie promo tees are a collected lane on eBay and Etsy, and dated, store-specific backs like this are what separates promo stock from a plain poster print.
Black short sleeve cotton tee with The Shining graphic. No tag.
