One face, no words. The single-portrait tee is the format bootleggers reserve for people who need no caption — Che, Marley, Tupac — and here it's handed to the man who spent a career refusing the icon job. This print is a tall sepia halftone of Thom Yorke on black, bearded, fringe pushed sideways — the look of his mid-2000s stretch, to go by the scruff — with nothing on the back at all: no album, no logo, no copyright line, the full grammar of the unofficial portrait print, where reverence does the licensing. The era that beard belongs to is the one worth naming: Radiohead out of their EMI deal, releasing In Rainbows in October 2007 as a pay-what-you-want download that made the whole industry re-run its arithmetic. Radiohead's official art has been Stanley Donwood's paintings since The Bends; the faces were always left to prints like this one, which treat the least willing rock star of his generation the way boot printers treat saints.
