Patterson has shaped for high-performance surfing long enough that his fin template is essentially a statement of what a shortboard thruster should do: hold when loaded, release when unloaded, and not surprise you in between.

The geometry

Base and height are close to equal, with moderate rake. That combination is deliberately middle-of-the-road — it does not specialise into drive or into pivot, which is what makes it a default rather than a choice you have to be sure about.
