The Fin

Timmy Patterson's quad, and the most evenly balanced set of the four-fin templates — the rears are nearly as large as the fronts.

Fronts at 4.35" deep on a 4.30" base; rears at 3.95" on a 3.85" base, with an 80/20 foil on the back pair. That is a small gap for a quad, and it is the whole idea: a set drawn for the all-round quad shortboard rather than for one kind of wave. FCS or Futures compatible — choose at checkout. This is the hexcore build — the lighter, livelier of the two, in smoke or clear.

How that reads

Most quads put a lot of fin at the front and very little at the back, which is fast in a straight line and vague the moment you turn. Sizing the rears close to the fronts gives the tail something to hold with, so turns and cutbacks finish where you point them instead of washing out. It is the difference between a quad that only tracks down the line and one you can surf off the tail.

Who it suits

All-round quad shortboards, and riders who have found other quad sets fast but hard to turn. The hexcore build is the lighter one, which puts some life back into a set drawn for predictability.
