The California Classic is True Ames' all-round single fin — medium profile, moderate rake, full foil — in nine sizes from mid-length centre fins up to longboard singles.

Solid fiberglass with a gloss finish, for a single or longboard box, in sizes from 6" to 10" and six colours. It has been in the line for decades and it is the template most people start with: a medium-sized profile with moderate rake, a full foil, and very little flex in it. Nothing about the outline is specialised, which is the point — it works on classic points and reefs, on beach breaks, and on most of what sits between them.

How that reads

Moderate rake sits between pivot and drive: the fin comes around in a turn but still holds a line down the face, so long sweeping turns and straight trim both feel settled. The full foil lifts evenly on both sides rather than favouring one. Minimal flex means what the board does is what the surfer asked for, with no delay and no spring back — stability first, at the cost of the looseness a smaller or more upright template gives.

Who it suits

The larger sizes for single-fin longboards; the smaller and medium sizes for mid-lengths and for 2+1 setups, where it runs as the centre fin. A sound first fin, and the one to come back to when a more specialised template turns out to be wrong for the wave in front of you.
