The Fin
No collection is complete without a traditional, old school D-fin. Originally popular as glass-ons in the ‘60s, we offer the D-2 as a box fin these days for those keen to try it out and take a trip to the past.
The full surface area of the D-2 allows for subtle directional adjustments, but the main attraction is the easy noseriding. If you want to cruise down the line and log some serious tip time while paying homage to the classic days of longboarding, then this is the fin for you.
Traditional, full area fin designed to pair with big heavy logs and Pig shapes
- Has a 9.75” base, and it will fit in a standard 10” fin box because True Ames made an overhang in the rear of the fin. You may have to take out your fin box leg rope, but most D-fin riders do not use such newfangled attachments anyway

That full area is what holds the tail down and keeps the board tracking straight enough to walk forward without the nose washing out — built for big, heavy logs and Pig shapes, where mass and a planted tail are the whole game.
Our take
Buy the D-2 for a heavy traditional log or Pig where noseriding and classic glide are the point: it plants the tail for serious tip time and does not want to turn off the tail. If you want to actively turn the board, the Beamish Storm Rider is the looser single, and a larger Greenough 4A is the noserider with a bit more turn available.
More About This Fin
The D-2 is a traditional D-fin made by True Ames in solid fiberglass, 9.0" tall with a 9.75" base that fits a standard 10" fin box via a rear overhang. The template reproduces the full-area, rounded-D glass-on fins of 1960s longboards in box-fin form. It is intended for heavy traditional logs and Pig-style longboards.
