The Fin
The Gephart #2 is Larry Gephart's keel template, made by True Ames in solid fiberglass for Futures boxes.
A pair of keels in solid fiberglass, Futures compatible, in blue. Gephart's original #2 fins were marine ply, and a glass version for Futures boxes had been a standing customer request before he gave the greenlight to make one. True Ames kept the template as close to the original as it could be kept, and gave the pair the classic 50/50 foils that match the ply fins. There are 4 degrees of cant in them.
How that reads
A 50/50 foil is symmetrical — the same curve on both faces — so the fin is not generating lift to one side the way a flat inside foil does. What comes back instead is glide: the pair holds a line without pulling the board off it, which is exactly what keels on a fish are wanted for. The cant tips them outward, so as the board goes on rail the fins begin lifting rather than only holding.
Who it suits
Fishes and keel-friendly twins with Futures boxes, ridden for speed and long drawn turns rather than tight ones. Anyone who knows the ply #2 and wants that outline in glass for a Futures board. Trim-line surfing, in waves with a wall to run along.

A touch more progressive than the #1: where the #1 runs a straight back, the #2 carries a minimal amount of relief in the trailing edge, generating speed off the keel rather than pivoting off a tip.
Our take
Run the Gephart #2 Keels on a Lis-style fish or wide-tailed keel twin when you want traditional down-the-line speed and glide with a slightly looser tail than a straight-backed keel. If you want the most-classic straight-backed feel, the original Gephart template is the one — this set prizes glide over snap, not performance pivot.
