Lovelace Quad Fiberglass

Ryan Lovelace's quad: the Piggyback template tightened up, with stubby upright rear fins that keep it skatey instead of tracking.

Four fins in solid fiberglass, Futures compatible, in royal blue or smoke. Lovelace drew it as a tighter version of his Piggyback Quad, with the rear pair kept short and stood upright rather than raked back. It is the quad he points twin-fin riders at — the set to try if four fins have always felt like too much fin.

How that reads

A quad's rear pair is what makes it fast down the line and also what makes it track. Cut the rake out and stand the rears up and the set keeps the drive that four fins give you while leaving the tail somewhere to go, so the board pivots and releases the way a twin does rather than running the turn out to the shoulder. What you give up is outright hold: this is a set drawn for feel first.

Who it suits

Fish, hulls and Lovelace's own shapes with four plugs, in waves where flow matters more than power. Riders coming off a twin who want a bit more control without losing the skate.
