True Ames' own 5.1" twin in Hexcore β smaller than the standard 5.5", and useful in more than one configuration.
The TA Twin 5.1 is the smaller of True Ames' two house twin templates: 5.1" against the standard TA Twin's 5.5", with a flat inside foil and a moderate amount of area. Hexcore is the lighter construction β it trims weight and adds snap compared with solid fiberglass. Sold as a pair, in smoke or clear.
Taking half an inch of depth out of a twin takes hold out of it, which is why this set feels looser and more willing to release than the 5.5". The flat inside foil keeps the drive, and the moderate area keeps it predictable rather than skittish. Hexcore's lower weight in the tail is what produces the snap: less mass to move when the board changes direction.
The same pair works in three places. As a twin it is the lively option. As the front fins of a quad it brings hold and drive into a set that would otherwise be loose. As the sides of a thruster it adds hold and control without the stiffness of a bigger side fin. Worth knowing before buying a second set.
Want more hold and a longer turn? The True Ames Twin (FCS / Futures), the standard 5.5". Want solid fiberglass rather than Hexcore, in a template drawn for bigger surf? The True Ames High Pro Twin Fiberglass (Futures).
