The Transistor is Tappy Yoshikawa's wide-based, distinctly raked longboard template, made in volan, in 9.5" and 10.0".
Volan fiberglass for a standard longboard box, in two sizes. A ramped leading edge and a wide upright base transition quickly into distinct rake, and the tip is narrow and flexible. That is two decisions working against each other on purpose: base and rake for drive and hold, a thin tip for feel. True Ames builds its volan around flex as much as outline, laying the panels so the weave runs the right way and the flex comes from the body of the fin.
The wide upright base gives drive off the bottom, and plenty of it; the rake behind it stops the fin feeling abrupt at the end of the arc. Hold arrives when the front third of the board is weighted, so it stays with you as you move forward rather than washing out. The narrow tip is where the sensitivity lives — it bends under load and springs back, which reads as projection through a bottom turn instead of vagueness.
Logs ridden with intent: bottom turns that go somewhere, time up front, and a preference for a fin that answers back rather than one that only holds. Take the 10.0" for more board or more wave, the 9.5" if you want the tail to come round easier.
The design gives plenty of drive off of the bottom, and hold when the front third of the board is weighted, while the narrow flexible tip creates feel and sensitivity through turns.
This is a more performance-leaning log fin than a pure pivot: put it on a performance log or heavier mid-length single you want to surf rail to rail and still walk forward on. If your priority is pure planted noseriding, step to the Tappy 1 or the Velzy Noserider instead.
The Tappy Transistor is Takuya "Tappy" Yoshikawa's Transistor template, made by True Ames in a volan layup that flexes through the body. The shape ramps off a wide, upright base into distinct rake toward a narrow, flexible tip. It comes in 9.5" and 10.0" sizes and is intended for longboards and heavier mid-length singles.
