The Fin
Tyler Warren's redesigned five-fin set in solid fiberglass β generous rake, narrow tips, ridden as a thruster or as a quad.
A set of five, Futures compatible, in honey, black or white solid fiberglass. Five fins means one purchase covers two setups: three in for a thruster, four in for a quad, with the same templates doing both jobs. The rake is generous and the tips are narrow, a combination aimed at surf that is not giving much β the set keeps feeding speed in small waves β while still holding steady once the wave has some push behind it. Tyler Warren redrew it for exactly that spread of conditions.
How that reads
Rake is the curve that sweeps a fin back from its base. Plenty of it spreads the hold out along the length of the turn instead of concentrating it under the tail, so the board keeps moving forward through an arc rather than stalling into it. Narrow tips take area out of the part of the fin furthest from the board, which is what allows the tail to break free at the end. Speed when there is nothing to work with, hold when there is.
Who it suits
Boards with five plugs, ridden by someone who changes the setup with the swell: thruster when the surf has shape and the tail needs to be predictable, quad when it is small or running down the line and drive matters more. It is also the straightforward answer to wanting one set of fins in the bag instead of two.
