7’3” Speed Egg by Tyler Warren. One of the most well-known mid-length designs to come out of Southern California in the last decade.
Design Details
Classic egg outline with low rocker for paddle power and natural speed. This is the standard Speed Egg in a 2+1 setup with glassed-on side bites—the versatile configuration that lets you run it as a single fin for trim and glide, or engage the side bites for more hold through turns. Sanded gloss finish. Tyler designed the Speed Egg to handle powerful, fast-breaking waves while keeping the easy paddle and wave-catching of an egg shape.
How It Rides
The Speed Egg does what the name says—it’s an egg with speed. Fuller rails and low rocker generate drive down the line, while the pulled-in tail lets you draw longer lines than a typical egg. It’s the board you take when it’s not quite big enough for a gun and not small enough for a fish. Waist to head high, all conditions.
The Shaper
Hand-shaped by Tyler Warren in Dana Point, California. Warren shaped his first board at 14, mentored by Hobie legend Terry Martin, and has since worked alongside Chris Christenson, Josh Hall, Robin Kegel, and Malcolm Campbell. He made the cover of Surfer Magazine riding a self-shaped single fin at Desert Point. Every Tyler Warren board is shaped by Tyler himself—one guy, one shaping bay, behind his house in Dana Point.
