The Details
The gold script on the neck label reads Swingster β a Kansas City outfit whose nylon jackets carried Winston, Budweiser, NASCAR and half the motor trade, and which are now their own collecting lane: the promotional jacket, ordered by the marketing department and handed out at dealerships and trade shows rather than worn by anyone racing. This is that object in its black form. Ribbed collar, cuffs and hem; a snap storm flap over the zip; a zip chest pocket and a snapped flap pocket beside it; the S and SUZUKI in white on the left chest, and nothing at all on the back. The restraint is the tell β a race jersey shouts, a dealership jacket murmurs. The badge it murmurs is worth something: Michio Suzuki's loom works opened in Hamamatsu in 1909, the S was adopted as the corporate mark in 1958, and by the seventies Roger De Coster had taken five 500cc motocross world titles on Suzukis between 1971 and 1976.
