Solid fiberglass in smoke, for a standard longboard box, in four sizes. Ueda β Y.U β is a Japanese surfer, board builder and shaper, and the Spring Arch is the design his other shapes and fin templates are measured against. It is fairly upright in stature but carries a real curve in the outline and a healthy amount of area all the way through, which is why it pairs with such a wide range of boards without feeling wrong on any of them.
Upright gives the pivot β the board turns around the fin, tight, over the back foot β and the curve through the outline stops that being abrupt at the end of the arc. There is enough area in it to keep the tail settled in trim, so the stability does not cost you manoeuvrability. Running side bites alongside it shifts the balance toward hold, which is worth doing on a steeper wave or a bigger board.
A wide range of boards with a centre box: mid-lengths, eggs and shorter logs. The sizes run 7.0" to 8.5", so this is aimed below full-length log territory. Riders who want one fin that both settles the board down and still turns, without committing to either extreme.
The staple and baseline of YU's shapes, designs, and fin templates. Fairly upright in stature, but also features a beautiful curve and healthy amount of area throughout.
Put it on a mid-length or fuller board when you want one versatile, neutral single that does a bit of everything, adding side bites when you want more hold on rail. If you would rather have rake, flex, and drive for point-wave speed and long turns, the Wilderness Flex is the alternative.
The YU Spring Arch is the baseline single fin template from shaper Yoshinori Ueda, made by True Ames in solid fiberglass. The profile is fairly upright with a moderate amount of rake and a healthy amount of area throughout. It is stocked in four sizes, 7 inch, 7.5 inch, 8 inch, and 8.5 inch, and can run as a standalone single or with side bites in a 2+1 setup.
Mentioned in the review β Wilderness Flex β not something we carry.
