The Fin

A full-outline twin with moderate rake, designed by Manny Caro of Mandala Custom Shapes, in solid fiberglass on Futures bases.

5.31" deep on a 5.20" base, 20.35 square inches a side, in solid fiberglass, in smoke and clear. The DELTA-V is drawn with a full outline and moderate rake, which is a balanced twin rather than a specialised one, and that is what lets it move between boards and conditions. Solid fiberglass gives it a stiff flex, so what goes into the fin off the bottom comes back out as drive instead of being absorbed.

How that reads

A full outline puts area under the back foot and moderate rake spreads the turn out rather than pivoting it: stability first, then smooth, powerful turns off the tail. The stiff flex holds its shape under load, which is where the drive off the bottom and the hold through the lip come from. Nothing in the template pushes towards loose or towards locked in β€” it sits in the middle deliberately.

Who it suits

Twin fin boards of most outlines, from fishes to modern performance twins, and surfers who want one set that covers a range of surf rather than one kind of wave. Riders after a driving twin rather than a soft, skatey one.

If this is not the one

On a board with FCS plugs? The True Ames Mandala DELTA-V Twin - FCS Compatible (Solid Fiberglass) is the same fin on the other base.

From True Ames

Balanced curves and a full outline keep it predictable across different boards, with moderate rake stretching the turn just enough for smooth, powerful arcs -- the stability-first twin in the Mandala lineup.

Our take

A stable, drivey twin for fish and hybrid twins, at its best when the surf has a shoulder and you intend to lean into committed turns -- it banks hard, holds its line, and drives off the bottom instead of washing out. If you want skatey looseness, this is the wrong twin.

More About This Fin

The Mandala DELTA-V Twin was designed by Manny Caro and is made by True Ames in solid fiberglass with Futures-compatible bases, sold as a twin set. The template uses a full outline with balanced curves and moderate rake, and the solid fiberglass layup keeps the flex stiff. It is intended for fish and hybrid twin-fin boards.
